This project put cameras in the hands of community residents plus WVU medical students in Charleston. The participants took photos of the West Side and wrote about the significance of those photos. THEME ONE: PHOTO REFLECTIONS // PHOTO VOICES Just as money is speech according to the U.S. Supreme Court so do the photos of the community become the speech that they use to amplify their voice. THEME TWO: HEALING THE WEST SIDE MAPPING INEQUITIES AND THE PERSPECTIVES OF MEDICAL SCHOOL FACULTY AND STUDENTS Central to this work is an inquiry into how we practice medicine in the United States and define health in light of the places that our bodies inhabit. THEME THREE: NEIGHBORHOODS IN TRANSITION What happens to the meaning and existence of a place and the people that reside within that space when there are competing interpretations, historical narratives, and visions for that space?
